てくれる
to do a favor; do something for someone
JLPT
N5
Structure
N1は N2に Nを Vて+くれる
Signification
「くれる」 is similar to 「あげる」 in that they both express the idea of "someone doing something for someone else," but they differ in that the recipient (N2) of the action must be "me" or someone closely associated with "me" (more intimate or closer to "me" than N1). Note:
-「くれる」 carries the nuance that "the person doing (N1) actively wants to perform the action for (N2)," thereby also expressing the speaker's gratitude "me" towards the doer (N1).
- When the recipient (N2) is "me," "私に" can be omitted.
- Depending on the verb V, the particle に after N2 can be replaced with を or と.
- When N is the possession of N2, "N2にNを" can be replaced with "N2のNを."
