Vます+たいです
अर्थ
「たいです」is used to express what oneself wants to do, or to inquire about the listener's desires.
Note:
- It is not used to talk about the desires of a third person.
- It is not used to ask superiors or people who are not very close about their desires.
- It is not used to invite the listener to do something. For example, when inviting someone to drink tea, do not say お茶を/が飲みたいですか but say お茶を飲みませんか or お茶はいかがですか.
- When the object is marked with the particle を, it can be replaced with が. The general meaning of both sentences is similar, but there is a slight difference in nuance. が emphasizes the object, while を emphasizes the action. For example:
+ パンを食べたいです ➔ The speaker wants to perform the action of eating bread.
+ パンが食べたいです ➔ The speaker wants to eat, specifically bread.
When the object is marked with other particles like に、で..., those particles remain unchanged.
- The negative and past forms of 「Vたい」 are conjugated similarly to い adjectives.
