Refers to a specific character or event, expressing the idea "if X happens, then of course Y will happen". Since Y is an event that has not yet occurred, the sentence often ends with expressions of speculation or prediction such as 「だろう」、「にちがいない」、「はずだ」、「かもしれない」、「思う」... One might also use 「ば」 to indicate that X is a necessary and sufficient condition for Y to occur.
