意味
「べきだ/べきではない」 is used to strongly give advice to the listener, based on the subjective judgment of the speaker, indicating whether something should (べきだ) or should not (べきではない) be done.
Even when not used to advise the listener, 「べき」 is also used to express the speaker's opinion that, according to general principles of morality or common sense, something should or should not be done. Therefore, when the speaker gives advice because they believe it aligns with ethics, duty, responsibility, etc., 「べき」 is often preferred over 「ほうがいい」.
「べきだった/べきではなかった」indicates something that should have (べきだった) or should not have (べきではなかった) been done, thereby expressing the speaker's regret or remorse.
「べき」 is used in both written texts and everyday conversations.
