意义
「可能形」is the potential form of a verb, expressing:
1. Ability to do something (play the piano, ride a bike, cook...).
2. Possibility to do something due to circumstances, environment, etc.
Note:
- Verbs that already inherently convey the potential meaning like 分かる (to understand), 知る (to know), 受かる (to pass an exam), 見える (to be visible) do not change to potential form.
- Involuntary actions (actions or behaviors that cannot be controlled by will) like 忘れる (to forget), 亡くなる (to pass away), ある (to exist), 落ちる (to fall), 倒れる (to collapse), 開く (to open) do not change to potential form.
- After changing to potential form, verbs become verbs of Group II, so they are conjugated as verbs of Group II.
